Enlisted

Enlisted as logged here

Enlisted has one very good idea: you do not control a soldier, you control a squad. You play as one of them and the rest follow, which means losing a firefight costs you men rather than ending the round.

Battles are built around historical campaigns with infantry, armour and aircraft sharing the same map. It looks considerably better than a browser game has any right to.

Squad composition and loadouts are where the depth is - engineers who build cover, snipers who hold a lane, assault teams for a room. Getting that mix right is most of the game.

Where it pulls ahead of the rest

  • Squad command
  • Historical campaigns
  • Team battles

Logged as right for

Anybody who wants a shooter with some tactical thinking in it and matches that finish inside an hour.

Logged as wrong if you dislike reflex games - this is the twitchiest thing on our list.

What the log says about week one

Build an engineer into every squad early. Cover you placed yourself wins more fights here than accuracy does.

Stay with one campaign until the squads are upgraded. Spreading across three leaves you underequipped in all of them.
