Seafight

Seafight as logged here

Seafight is an old-school pirate MMO and makes no apology for it. You sail a ship around a persistent sea, sink monsters and other players, collect pearls and gold, and spend both on a better hull and better guns.

Combat is positional and slow in a way that suits a browser: you manoeuvre, you broadside, you decide whether to commit or run. Fleets of players make the open sea genuinely dangerous in the best parts of the map.

It rewards persistence more than skill. The ships at the top took years, and the people sailing them will tell you so at length.

Where it pulls ahead of the rest

  • Naval battles
  • Ship upgrades
  • Treasure hunts

Logged as right for

You want a long-running world to belong to and a crew to sail with, and you are not in a hurry.

Logged as wrong if you measure a game by how quickly you can be competitive.

What the log says about week one

Stay in safe waters until your hull is upgraded. Wandering into contested sea in a starter ship is a very short story.

Join a guild. Seafight is substantially more fun with a fleet and substantially grindier without one.
